Slopeside Owner Memorial May 24, 2009

corna-picWith overcast skies yesterday and literally hundreds of mourners, this memorial was a testament to the larger than life man that we called our friend.  When family and friends recounted their “Chris” stories, there were both laughs and tears sometimes at the same time.  We will all miss this warm, generous, kind, witty, adventurous,  excellent business man.  Everyone who  knew Chris certainly feels the void.   Steamboat has lost one of its true friends.

YeeeeHaaaa…Steamboat Finally Has a Saloon!

ghost-ranch-saloon-5-09-0091The exciting Grand opening of the Ghost Ranch Saloon located Downtown on 7th Street  between Lincoln and Yampa Streets was this last Friday May 22.   It  has been at least a decade since Steamboat has had a Saloon.  Not one trace of the old “Off the Beaten Path Bookstore” remains in this location.  Everything was over the top from the ornate, 1893 Mahogany bar to the 4 VIP rooms, to the lighted dance floor.  Denver-based blues band, The Informants played to a packed house.  We were lucky to get a place at the bar at 9:00 p.m. but after that it was packed to the max.  The 400 person capacity was evident shortly thereafter with a line to get in.  Six bartenders were hustling to keep up with the thirsty patrons waiting 4 deep at the bar.   I didn’t see anyone with  food, so will have to  give you an update on that at the later time.    It was evident that everyone was having a wonderful time dancing and chatting.  I know that  we are all happy to have an upscale establishment with live music downtown.
